Guiding Principles of Core Practice

  • universal: acceptable to all. This implies it aligns with the culture of the Group (e.g. small businesses in general dislike prescriptiveness) but on the other hand it takes no political or religious position.
  • minimal: provide a minimum functional operational while keeping risks within acceptable levels and meeting regulatory requirements. Therefore it should only include essentials. Presenting options is a bad sign.
  • useful: it should work. It also needs to create a foundation for best practice and standards compliance, i.e. it does not introduce any major non-compliance that will make these impossible to achieve later
